My Life’s Song
As an inner-city (South Philly) child I remember going to the park with my grandfather and loving the nature of feeding squirrels and pigeons. When I was six we moved to Maryland where there was at least a mile of woods between my house and the ever-growing airport. I was in heaven: adventure, forts, streams, animals, and endless fascination. From then on I was constantly seeking out nature; the wonder, thrills and adventure it brought became a way of life. From biking to Patapsco State Park, taking my Austin Healey Sprite to Shenandoah, VW bussing all around the country, to working in Yellowstone National Park, falling in love, and eventually settling next to the Uinta Mountains; nature became my “going home”.
Early on I drew, sketched, painted and took pictures until John Denver taught me that music could also express my love for nature. After that, sharing my love of the wilderness with my family, and my students in the field, our public lands and the classroom became my greatest passion and enjoyment.
Now as a retired “Old Folkie” I still have a hunger to “go home, and to experience, observe and share all that I find amazing and beautiful about nature, wilderness and kids. This is how I share the peace, wonder, and love I feel for life in all it’s glorious natural wonder.
I hope you find something that makes you smile, touches your soul, and keeps your “child alive”.
