Nature’s Handiwork

At 17 I first heard John Denver’s “Take Me Home Country Roads and nothing was ever the same. As soon as I could I wanted to see that Shenandoah River, and those Blue Ridge Mountains. Then came his song, “Rocky Mountain High” and the entire country’s scenic wonders and Parks became my destination, my inspiration, and “My Home”

The Joy of Sharing

Beauty, nature, wonder, and self exploration can bring tremendous satisfaction, but sharing that wonder, that beauty, and those experiences are just downright rewarding exhilarating “fun”.

Over a lifetime I shared my passion for science and nature with my friends, family, and students. Some of those opportunities are now gone, but I’m still sharing the wonder, and reliving those magic moments

Time to Observe

As I now have more “Nature” time to just watch, explore, and, “saunter” as John Muir said I have more moments to “stop and smell the flowers”, “watch a day go by”, “and learn of her creatures.” I can spend a day with the Goats, an afternoon with the flowers, a season with the leaves, and a snowy day with the wolves. I am a blessed man.

I have spent hundreds of days in areas of natural wonder and wild beauty, often with teenagers, and those young at heart. I have taken thousands of pictures, often putting together packets for my students so they could remember and enjoy those special moments. Sometimes they’d catch me and return the favor. These shared moments are my favorites, Natural beauty, and wonder, and that feeling of peace that an outdoor experience can bring are priceless, but to be able to share those moments is the stuff of precious memories and warm fuzzies that can last a lifetime.
